With all the fantastic coaching available on the Internet today, there’s no excuse for not planning a novel or major work before diving in. Except when you don’t want to.
I love reading about some of my author friends on Facebook, who about twice a year complain that their main characters are supposed to be doing X, but end up doing Y. Those are always the best kinds of books, because they’re driving by the characters, who are people created by people, and people are anything but predictable.
