Motivation Monday: A Cry of Pure Frustration.

The fact that you just flushed an entire writing notebook down the toilet, page by page, is completely normal and does not mean you should swear off writing forever.

Pulitzer Prize-winning novelist Cormac McCarthy is widely acknowledged as one of the best American writers of the 20th century. His books include All the Pretty Horses and No Country for Old Men. And this quote is his:

I don't know why I started writing. I don't know why anybody does it. Maybe they're bored, or failures at something else. -Cormac McCarthy

Maybe it’s just my reading, but I detect a note of tired frustration in this quote of McCarthy’s. Could it be that the interviewer caught him on a so-so writing day? Could I be projecting my own frustrations on this quote?

Why did YOU start writing? Did you fail at anything before taking up words?
